Is Online Learning Faster?
Online educators frequently advertise that you can earn your degree faster online than in a traditional university setting. A quick search of online reviews by current and former students shows the same thing. So, it true? Online educators have the same minimum requirements for degrees and certificates as any other college or university so how is this possible? The simple truth is that with some creativity and innovation some online educators can help you complete your degree faster than you might at a traditional university or college. Whether or not this is possible is up to which online programs you select and the time you have to dedicate to your coursework.
One way that online educators help their students achieve their degrees faster is by offering more accelerated degree programs. These programs design cirriculum so that course are more dense and difficult but fit the accredidation requirements so that you earn more credits per course and some courses will satisfy multiple requirements for a specific degree. While more difficult and sometimes requiring more time for coursework and study, these programs will enable students to achieve their degree faster.
Online educators may also have more courses available during summer and winter sessions than traditional learning campuses offer. Usually during the summer and winter if a university or college offers courses over the summer, they only offer a limited set of classes instead of the full set available during other semesters or quarters. So, traditional students typically have to take the summer and winter breaks off from school. Online students attending programs that offer a full set of courses do not heed to take time away from their education and can complete their degrees faster by continuing to take courses during these sessions
Some online educators also offer unique ways to earn credits, including taking exams to earn credits for classes with subject matter students are already proficient in, these may be directly from the school's cirriculum, in which case you will pay tuition for the course, but skip directly to the final exam, or may come in the form of the government sponsored CLEP exams that are available to traditional students as well. In some cases, online educators offer to give you credit for the experience, knowledge and skills that you have gained the professional world. This is rare and will most likely require some type of exams, be sure to talk to an advisor from your potential online degree program to find out if this is available.
Finally, if you determine you have the time, you can handle a greater load of classes from an online degree program than a traditional setting, because you are eliminating commute times, note transcription and other time consuming activities associated with earning a traditional degree. The self directed nature of online learning means you can structure your schedule so that you can attend classes, study and complete your work at times when you are able to be the most attentive and efficient.
So, it is possible to get your online degree faster than you would a traditional degree, if you choose the right online degree program and are willing and able to dedicate the time and effort to achieving your degree quickly.
